Terms:
Administrator - A person appointed by the court to settle the estate of someone who died intestate.
Alien -  To transfer land or title to another.
Appurtenances - Easements, rights of way, or agreements attached to land.
Assigns - Anyone acting on behalf of or in place of the owner.
Bargain - Mutual agreement among people to exchange or purchase goods.
Demise - Synonym for lease.
Dower - A wife's interest in her husband's property, inheritable at his death.
Enfeoff - To invest with an estate held in fee.
Escheat - Land ownership reverting to the Crown, government, or estate owner because of lack of heirs.
Executor - The person named in a will to carry out the terms of the will.
Fee simple - Ownership of land that can be inherited by any heirs.
Feoffment - Transfer of inheritable real property.
Grant - Transfer of title from the government to the first titleholder of a piece of property.
Hereditament - Anything that can be inherited.
Intestate - Having no will.
Jointure - Property given to a prospective wife. To be enjoyed by her at her husband's death.
Messuage - A dwelling house with its adjacent buildings and land appropriated to the use of the household.
Quitrent - A rent paid in lieu of required feudal services.
Seizin - Possession of a freehold estate.
Teste - Witness
Testate - Having a will.
